Form a 20x45-meter/22x49 yds rectangle playing field with the markers. On the end lines of the field (the two short sides), in the center, place the mini goals (1.5 meter/yds) or use poles. Using the markers, divide the field into three equally sized areas as in the picture. Form two teams of four members each (red versus white team in the picture). One player from each team takes position in the rectangle with the goal, they will be the stationary forward, the other three players from the team take position in the central rectangle. Thus we will have on the areas adjacent to the two mini goals one player per team (forwards) and in the central rectangle three players per team (3 v 3).
- In the central area of the field, a ball possession between the two teams takes place (3 v 3)
- After a minimum of three passes, without interception by the opponents, the players look for the forward on the side rectangle and a 2 v 1 situation is created, where the one who carries the ball over the line of the central rectangle helps the attacking teammate to score, while for the opposing team the player closest to the action goes to defend the goal
- A 2 v 1 situation is then played in favor of the attacking team (with the aim to score a goal)
- All other players must remain in the central rectangle
- At the end of each series, both teams must replace the forwards positioned in the outer rectangles with a teammate from the central rectangle
- The team that scored the most goals at the end of all series wins
Example of an execution in which the white team leads a player to the goal after a quick combination
- The drill begins with the coach throwing a ball inside the playing area into the central rectangle
- At least three passes in a row without interception by the opponents must have been made before carrying or passing the ball beyond the line of the central rectangle to attack the goal
- The attacker may not move inside the center rectangle but must wait in their own zone
- Upon either team's goal, the coach will throw a new ball into the center rectangle and start a new action with the players returned to their starting positions
- Should the ball leave the perimeter of play, a restart is made with a throw-in with the feet
- If the defender steals the ball from the two forwards, they pass it to teammates in the center rectangle and quickly move to help in that area to participate in possession
- At the end of the four series, the team that scored the most goals wins
- Limit the number of touches available to players (e.g., three)
- Decrease or increase the size of the field
- Allow the forward to help teammates in the central rectangle, but maintain the rule that in the attacking phase only three players can enter the finishing zone for the 2 v 1 situation
- Tight spaces to encourage quick combinations and stimulate players' cognitive skills
- Quick and accurate ground passes promote intensity of possession
- Continuous movement of players
- Maximum intensity
- Technical skills under high intensity: ball control and protection, dribbling and improvisation to overcome the opponent, passing and receiving
- Take care of the transition phases
