4 v 4 ball possession targeting depth attack for shot on goal in 1 v goalkeeper situation |
Ball control, Goal defense, Mobility, Insertion |
Arrange the markers to create a square-shaped playing area with sides of about 25 meters/27 yards. Place a goal on one of the sides. About 8 meters/8.7 yards from the goal, form a horizontal line with the two cones, about 8 meters/8.7 yards wide, through which all attacking actions for finalization should pass. Divide the players into two teams of four members each using jerseys (white team vs. red team in the picture).
- The drill begins when the coach throws the ball into the field
- The teams engage in ball possession with the objective for the team in possession to execute three consecutive passes without interception by the opponents
- At this point the attacking action can begin, which must necessarily pass between the cones
- Players can cross the horizontal line between the two cones either running with the ball or with a through ball
- Once the team in possession has crossed the horizontal line between the two cones, the player with the ball performs a 1 v Goalkeeper and tries to score (at this stage the defending team cannot counter the attacker)
Player A runs with the ball waiting for B's insertion and passes it to them in the space between the two cones avoiding the defender C
- The defending team at the time of the opponent's vertical attack cannot cross the line formed by the cones
- The attack of depth for the shot on goal can begin only after the team in possession has made three consecutive passes without an opponent's interception
- Defenders cannot station beyond the line formed by the cones
- Attackers cannot station beyond the line formed by the cones to receive the ball (offside)
- Form two lines of cones about 6 meters/yards wide and place them diagonally in relation to the goal, forming two lateral attacking fronts. Attacking actions will have to pass through the cones, and in this case there can be an attacking player near the goal who waits for the cross in the center of the teammate to finish in the net
- Move the line of cones as desired, coaching insertions from various angles and distances
- Increase or decrease the size of the playing field or horizontal lines to be crossed to attack the goal according to the age and skills of the players
Variation 1
- Players should remain in constant movement to clear passing lines to teammates and actively propose centrally
- Attacking actions must develop centrally and it is preferable to cross the line with a through ball to teach the right timing of insertion and attack
- Attention to the goalkeeper's movements away from the goal, which must be decisive but not risky
- Finishing across the line must be done in the shortest possible time
- Very quick transitions from possession to non-possession phase
