Summary | Secondary Objectives |
---|---|
Small-sided game to train ball possession and recovery, working on transitions |
Losing your marker, Short pass, Marking, Intercepting, 4 versus 3, Transitions |
Make two adjacent 11x11-yard squares with markers. Divide players into two teams of 5 members each using jerseys (red team vs white team in the picture). Within one square arrange four white and three red players. In the other square, the remaining two red players and one white player are placed. Two neutral players (green) are placed one on each side, outside the two short sides of the rectangle (as in the picture). Ball to a player from the white team.
- The game begins with a 4 v 3 ball possession that turns into a 5 v 3 due to the addition of the joker (4 white players plus the green joker against 3 red ones in the left square in the picture)
- The goal of the team in ball possession is to make 10 consecutive passes to get a point without the 3 defenders intercepting the ball
- If the defenders manage to regain the ball, they try to get it to their square as quickly as possible, and to achieve this they can enlist the cooperation of the neutral player along the opposite side of the square
- When a team recovers the ball, only two players can return to their square and only two players from the opposing team can enter the opposing square to recover possession (So one red player and two white players are forced to stay in the opposite square from where possession of the ball moved in the example)
- A 5 v 3 ball possession is created again only with the sides reversed (4 reds plus the green joker vs 3 whites in the right square in the picture)
- If during possession of the ball the outnumbered team moves the ball out of the square of play, the coach throws another ball inside the other square to restart play with possession for the opposing team (players must move and adapt quickly to the new situation)
- At the end of the two series, the team with the most points wins
- Neutral players have a maximum of two touches for the play
- One red and one white player, during their team's possession of the ball, are required to stand in the opponent's square
- For every ten consecutive passes without an opponent's interception, the team in possession of the ball gets one point
- Change the two players who serve as jokers each series (rotating them with one player per team)
- Creating triangles of possession, useful to avoid the opposing player, enclosing them within the triangles
- Take care of the reaction to negative transition
- Take care of the overall distances between players
- Care for the orientation of the body when receiving, it must always be open to the larger portion of the field
- Incite the Give and Go: after playing the ball to a teammate, the player continues the run to get into an open space where they can receive again (continuous mobility)
- The player closest to the ball possessor must choose what to do, consequently triggering the relative movement of teammates
- Incite players to make the counter movement for clearing and consequent reception of the ball
- To trigger continuous mobility and maintain appropriate staggering, two neighboring players who are on the same line, whether horizontal or vertical to the field, should move by creating diagonal lines of play
- Incite defensive players to read the opponent's passing lines in advance to recover possession of the ball as quickly as possible
